Are you a few miles short of your next award ticket? Are you looking for a great gift for the special frequent flyer in your life? You can now purchase miles for yourself or for others online on 10 North America-based airlines.
The price of one mile starts at just over two cents per mile and might include a 7.5 percent federal excise tax and a processing fee. Depending on the airline, you can purchase a minimum of 1,000 miles up to a unlimited maximum number of miles annually per account.
I’ve compiled information about each carrier’s mile-buying potential for you to compare. All mile-purchasing programs are ongoing, though the airlines may withdraw the offers at any time. And, when you purchase miles with a mile-earning credit card, you’ll gain even more miles.
