We stayed 5 nights in La Chatillon which is located 10 minutes walk from Alesia Metro Station, the Denfert Rochereau / Montparnasse area of Paris. The area is a bustling, non tourist area of Montparnasse. As you walk down Rue De Jean Moulin, the hotel is situated in a quiet residential cul-de-sac, surrounded by apartments.
Entering the hotel, the reception is small, but seems to have been redecorated in the past few months. We checked in with no problems, and the receptionist was very pleasant, and very helpful. I should point out that the hotel is a non smoking hotel, and it is “forbidden” (their words, not mine) to eat in the bedrooms. However, this rule is wavered for having breakfast in the room.
We were given room number 55 on the 5th floor. We were pointed to the smallest lift in the world, however, two suitcases, me sitting on them and my partner squashed against me arrived at floor 5 after what seemed a lifetime!!
Upon entering the room, we were very surprised at the size of the room. For Paris standards, it was huge!! The room was decorated in bright colours, rusty red and yellow. The bathroom was small, but it had a WC, shower and wash hand basin, what more do you need!! There was a large wardrobe, desk and chair. It also provided a flat screen TV, however all French channels, but we weren’t around much to view the TV! The room was spotless, as was the bathroom. Our room was cleaned each day with towels chnaged on request along with bed linen. There were large double windows which opened fully, and let in some air to the room. The heating was turned off; however, it only took about 10 minutes to begin to heat the room.
We took breakfast on the first morning, but would advise against it if you are looking for a filling beginning to the day. There was coffee, no tea of any kind, a small (very small) part of a baguette and 2 miniature pain du chocolat. The breakfast cost 7 Euro each. We recommend that you walk to the Champion supermarket, and pick up some fresh pasties and orange juice for 4 Euros for both of us.
Unfortunately, we need to visit a doctor on the evening of our third night. I went to reception to ask for some help, and the help I received was commendable. The receptionist called a local doctor for us, and helped as much as she could, which we extremely thankful for.
Overall, the hotel Chatillon comes highly recommended. For a 2* hotel, it is basic, but clean and comfortable, in a residential neighbourhood, quiet, close to all sites on the fantastic Paris Metro. We would have no hesitation to recommend the hotel. The room cost 85 Euro per night for the two of us, and was a gem to find in a city so big!!
I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel, make sure you book well in advance as the hotel does tend to fill out quite quickly. paris m tourist basic cheap montparnasse
