Me in cab
Today was the day we had beeen waiting for. After a little delay we managed to get three soft sleeper tickets from Beijing to Kunming. They were not easy to get either. For some reason, during the Olympics, the Chinese government restricted the sale of these tickets and we had at one time contemplated taking a flight to Kunming instead. One of Marie Claire’s students put us in touch with a ticket agent and all was ok. Going out for a good few drinks the night before didn’t really help either! After much checking and double-checking we were ready to go. We took a taxi to Beijing West station. What an impressive station!! The largest we had ever seen. We practically got the whole cabin on the train to ourselves. The train left at 16:50 . We are due to arrive 38 hours later in Kunming. Food on the train wasn’t bad either! We saw some beautiful scenes of the Chinese countryside. What an immense country.
