Puerto Rico 2007

El San Juan Hotel I originally wasn’t going to do a travel blog until my trip to New Orleans in less than 2 weeks, but I felt compelled to enter at least one.  Everyone has so many wonderful pictures to share… so I figured I’d do a quick blog about my favorite vacation in 2007 with my favorite cousin, Rachelle (she lives in San Diego).  We had a 5 day/4 night stay.  You won’t see ANY pictures from our last day’s stay as we were completely burned out and unbelievably hung over on Sunday, which worked out because it was pouring out all day/night and most of the people we met had left that morning.  Then Monday we headed back to NJ/NYC, where Rachelle continued to vacation for another 2 more days. Since this trip was a year ago, I’m going purely by memory… In

The Tor and The Well

Tor from a distance I arrived at Glastonbury and immediately i was aware of the giant hill with a huge tower on top, the glastonbury Tor. Finding your way there in the car isnt exactly hard, you just have to keep driving towards it until you get to the bottom of the hill and come unstuck. I was unable to find any parking for this place at all and drove round and round and in the end parked in one of the disabled bays which i shouldnt have done…but i was out of options. Alot of others had parked where double yellows hadnt been painted, so up on two wheels on dirt banks for many! The tor’s hill is a real hard one to climb, by the end i was panting like mad but its worth it for the amazing view at the top. Overlooking glastonbury and the surrounding world about 400 feet up is

Cafe Proverbs

Cafe Proverbs

Cafe Proverbs is a sunny all-vegan cafe in East Kyoto, within walking distance (about 10 minutes) of Ginkaku-ji temple. I started with a small green salad, which was garnished with bits of avocado, tomato, and onion. It was crisp, fresh and delicious. Next I had the Taco Bowl, which was lettuce, rice, and taco-seasoned seitan or tofu. It was excellent and filling. I wish I could eat like this every day. Steve had the Power Bowl, a bowl of rice and vegetables that didn’t really deserve its name. It wasn’t very large and contained no protein. (Steve left hungry). For dessert I had strawberry cake and Steve tried the cheesecake. Both portions were very small, which was OK since they tasted like Play-do. (Vegan cheese cake? What were we thinking?) Lunch was on the pricey side at

I fell in love with Costa Rica before i even set a foot onto its soil. Throughout high school and college, I learned more and more about it in my Spanish, history and political science classes. The country’s great hero Jose “Don Pepe” Figueres inspired me in his dreams of a perfect society. I decided I had to visit the country. I talked about it so much that, without even trying, I somehow convinced my friend Blake to visit the country as well. The two of us decided our time would be best spent if we worked as volunteers. We signed up to help with construction in an impoverished region of the country and that was that. We left Chicago for San Jose. We agreed to stay in Costa Rica for about three months in between college semesters!

Old School Bill’s Man Bag 4 Hour Manatee Trip

3/25/08 Looks like the Los Ness Manatee!! A quick stop on 3-25-08!!  The 1st 6 are new! Decided to take a short trip to the Manatee viewing center in Apollo Beach today.  I am adverse to talking the Interstate so we took the long way down Hwy 41, this made the trip there in about 18 minutes instead of the 11 by I-75. The Tampa Electric manatee viewing center is just south of Tampa Electric’s 1492 acre power plant s with combined 1800 megawatts output. The reason the manatees like Big Bend so much is when the saltwater used in the condensing process to cool the boiler is recycled back into canal the Tampa Electric uses the term slightly warmer.  The manatees I know like Maggie , Mort & MoMo before his unfortunate incarceration say hot
