Catch the 15 minute boat ride to Mamutik Island from Kota Kinabalu and find that island paradise you wont find anywhere else. The island never gets too busy, certainly it is not comparable to other islands like Sepilok, Mainly it is Malaysians who visit the island, with very few westerners.

The main highlight of the island is the diving. You can walk out to the reefs from the beach and snorkel when you cant dive.

Borneo Divers operate on this island, and if you visit their office in KK they can sort you out with gear hire and a PADI course, they also throw in a basic lunch too, the staff are fantastic! Mamutik island is also pretty close to a number of other dive sites, so you can arrange boat dives too.

Apart from the diving and the empty beaches what is really great about this place is the camping. There is a small shop on the island, a toilet and shower block, the divers house and the shop owners house – with only around two or three people actually living on the island, once the last boat leaves for the day – the island is your!

There are plenty of spots to pitch a tent or preferably rig up a hammock and basha and with bbq spots you are sorted. Though the island is so peaceful many a night we spent there we simply fell asleep on the beach watching the moon over Borneo.
